Advertising on social platforms only makes sense as a way to fund those social platforms. Every information medium in history (with the exception of books and movies, for which one pays out right) has relied, ultimately, on advertising to sustain its operations. Duh…why should we think the social media should be any different?

Facebook wants the FTC to allow first-party advertisers (like Facebook) within the COPPA rules because, says Facebook in a filing to the FTC, it can control the advertising on its own network.

A few mornings ago, over breakfast with my virtual friends on Facebook, we were aghast to discover the most recent gambit: what will be politely called "new data exchange tools for advertisers."
Gizmodo published this headline: The Annoying Thing Facebook Is About to Do with Your Phone Numbers and Emails.
Good, ol' fashioned email...still the primary communications tool of choice for most folks.
